Tel Mond
(Hasharon) Prison
No women were among the 400 Palestinian political prisoners released
by the Israeli government at the beginning of June (it was the second
and last group of prisoners released, according to the Sharm agreement).
Today there are about 8000 Palestinian political prisoners, among them
about 120 women.
33 women prisoners took part in the matriculation exams.
Recently, an eye disease has been discovered that may spread among the prisoners. The ophthalmologist visits the prison once every three months.
In June, two male guards brought two new women in the middle of the night and tried to put them in one of the women’s cell. The inmates woke up and were frightened and started shouting. Following this, the prison authorities punished one of the cellmates, Naserin Abu Ziad, by putting her in solitary confinement.
At present, the daily recreation of the women political prisoners is only an hour and half, once a day.
The health
situation of the eldest son of Manal Ghanim (which we included in the
campaign as one of the reasons to release her), Ihab, 11 years old,
is deteriorating: he suffers from severe sickle cell anemia. Therefore
the prison authorities allowed her, for one time only, to speak with
him by phone.
